The current vitality of the Iberian Supercars Endurance and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade series is highlighted by the addition of yet another brand-new car - an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 for Ruben Vaquinhas.
Even though it's the middle of the summer break, the most significant circuit competition on the Iberian Peninsula isn't at a standstill. There's a substantial amount of interest from drivers and teams in participating in the two upcoming events or acquiring the best equipment to excel on the racetrack.
One notable example is Ruben Vaquinhas, a Portuguese driver who took part in the initial two events of the season at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and the Circuito de Jarama. Ruben Vaquinhas made a strong impression during his first appearance in motorsport, driving an Araújo Competição McLaren 570S Trophy, which he shared with Manuel Vistas in the GTC class.
The Lisbon driver had previously indicated his intention to invest in a new GT4, but he had not yet disclosed which car he would select. However, he has now made his decision and has already taken possession of an impressive Aston Martin AMR GT4 at the Araújo Competição facilities.
Ruben Vaquinhas justifies his choice based on his relationship with the British automaker, as well as the competitive assurances offered by the Gaydon-built machine.
"Aston Martin is like a good watch or a good wine, it presents cars for great connoisseurs. Furthermore, I have a particularly special connection with the brand, as my initial experience with a sportscar involved one of their cars. I hold a deep affection for the brand, and now, with the support of Aston Martin Lisboa, I take immense pride in representing it. Additionally, the Vantage AMR GT4 has already demonstrated its high level of competitiveness, providing me with a sense of performance assurance", said the driver, who secured a podium finish during his debut in motorsport.
Having participated in the first two events of the season, Ruben Vaquinhas had already displayed his interest in the Supercars Endurance and the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade. However, he is now increasing his commitment, explaining: "as a fervent supercars enthusiast, it didn't align with my values to compete in cars that had less performance on the track than those I have at home. Furthermore, these cars offer exceptional safety features. Given these considerations, the Supercars Endurance and the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade were the ideal championships for me due to their competitiveness and the organisational professionalism they exhibit”.
With a revamped approach for the remainder of the 2023 season, Ruben Vaquinhas' ambitions are broadening, yet the Araújo Competição driver remains humble. "This year, being my first season in motorsport, my primary objective is to learn and develop rather than solely focus on achieving specific outcomes. My goal is to solidify my understanding and accumulate valuable experience. Looking ahead to the next season, I aspire to adopt a more ambitious stance and progress towards contending for victories within my division. Despite being aware of the formidable opponents I'll face, I aim to take that stride forward", concluded Ruben Vaquinhas.
The next race of the season will be held in Jerez de la Frontera from 20 to 22 October.
