Opened in 1967, the racetrack nearby Madrid was designed by John Hugenholtz, the much-acclaimed designer of the Zandvoort and Suzuka circuits. The Spanish track hosted the Spanish Grand Prix ten times until 1981, the year that Gilles Villeneuve achieved one of his most amazing victories. The undulating circuit with several blind corners separates the great from the good.
