The Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade (CPV), organised by Race Ready, and the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour, promoted by the WSC Group, have formed a partnership that will allow drivers entered in the Portuguese series' TCR division to take part in the Vila Real round of the international event — while continuing to score points in Portugal’s main circuit racing championship.
The 54th edition of the Circuito Internacional de Vila Real, taking place from 4 to 6 July, will host the world’s leading touring car series, as well as the pinnacle of national circuit racing, offering an exciting programme for both drivers and the large crowds that traditionally attend the historic Trás-os-Montes street circuit.
Drivers registered in the CPV’s TCR division will compete in both Kumho FIA TCR World Tour races, while still earning points for the national championship — the result of an agreement between Race Ready and the WSC Group, which adds further value and experience for the competitors.
The separation of the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade – Turismo starting grid from other categories is foreseen in the regulations and was essential in enabling this opportunity.
Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, said: “Vila Real is a unique event in any driver’s career, and with this partnership, our TCR division entrants have an even more special opportunity: to race alongside the world’s best touring car drivers. Yet they’ll still be scoring points for the CPV. I believe it will be an unforgettable experience, and we’re thrilled with this development”.
As usual, the circuit is expected to attract huge crowds. The two 50-minute CPV races will be broadcast live on DAZN España and DAZN Portugal.
