Francisco Abreu and José Carlos Pires team up with Speedy Motorsport for GT4 assault

Two more big names in Portuguese motorsport are heading to the Iberian Supercars Endurance this season. Francisco Abreu and José Carlos Pires will be driving Speedy Motorsport's BMW M4 GT4 in the GT4 Pro class.

Francisco Abreu is no stranger to cars in the GT4 category, having become the GT4 South European Series Champion in 2019, and adding the titles of Portuguese GT Champion in 2021 and Spanish GT Champion in 2022. He also won the TCR Iberico in 2017.

José Carlos Pires, on the other hand, has proven to be a competitive force in the Super Seven trophy, winning the competition in the last two years, always with Maia-based Speedy Motorsport team. He is now moving up the ladder to join the most relevant circuit racing series in the Iberian Peninsula.

"I am happy to join the Iberian Supercars Endurance in my twentieth year in motorsport, especially with a competitive and high-quality team, and having a driver by my side who has already shown speed and consistency", said Francisco Abreu. "After winning the Spanish GT title in 2022, the Supercars Endurance and the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade were the obvious choices, since they will have a grid with more than twenty cars, visit fantastic tracks, and have television broadcasting - these are very important and appealing conditions. Of course, the goal will be to fight for the title, driving the BMW M4 GT4, a car of the most recent generation, which is a good way to try to reach our goals. We know that the competition will be very strong, but we'll give it our best”.

José Carlos Pires added, "after two years of working with Speedy Motorsport, which brought me two titles in the Super Seven series, it was time to move up to the Iberian Supercars Endurance, especially with the BMW M4 GT4, which seems to me to be a very competitive car, and with a strong teammate and good people around. Everything is heading towards a good season. We will have to prepare ourselves, test, take care of our physical condition, and pursue the goal of winning the title”.

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will host the opening round of this year's Supercars Endurance on May 5-7.
