GT4: At last, Mathieu and Morsing shake off their bad luck

The second GT4 race of the Valencia round of Supercars Endurance, counting towards the Iberian Supercars and the Campeonato de España de Supercars, once again showcased the extraordinary balance that has defined the season. This time, victory smiled upon Mathieu Martins and Anton Morsing, at the wheel of Racar Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, in a race full of emotion.

Portuguese‑French driver Mathieu Martins started from pole position, but the getaway did not go his way. A less‑than‑ideal launch cost him several positions on the opening lap, dropping him to fourth. However, Martins was unfazed and began a remarkable recovery, overtaking Luís Aguiar’s McLaren Artura GT4 (McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport), Filip Vava’s Mercedes‑AMG GT4 (NM Racing Team) and Francisco Mora’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo2 (Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal). All of this happened within the first half of his stint, after which he opened a gap of more than three seconds.

When Anton Morsing took over the Aston Martin, everything pointed towards a calm run to victory. However, a Safety Car triggered by Guillermo Aso’s accident in NM Racing Team’s Mercedes‑AMG GT4 wiped out the advantage Martins had built.

In the final phase, Morsing came under heavy pressure from Rodrigo Almeida in Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal’s car, but he remained composed and focused, securing a victory that finally ends the streak of misfortune the duo had endured throughout the season.

Rodrigo Almeida and Francisco Mora secured second place and important championship points. The overall podium was completed by Tomás Granzella, who, driving NM Racing Team’s Mercedes‑AMG GT4, executed an excellent move on Rafael Rajani (SMC Motorsport’s McLaren Artura GT4) near the end to guarantee a deserved third place.

Starting from 18th, Carlos Vieira began a strong recovery that was completed by Hendrik Still, who delivered a notable performance to bring Veloso Motorsport’s Porsche Cayman CS RS to fourth place.

In GT4 Pro‑Bronze, victory went to Andrius Zemaitis and Lachlan Evennett in Nokotech Racing by Speedy’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo2, in a race marked by incidents on the opening lap. Francisco Abreu, in Caetano Portugal’s Toyota, lost significant ground due to contact that also involved Andrés Prieto (NM Racing Team’s Mercedes‑AMG GT4) and Eric Gene (BMW Motorsport España’s BMW M4 GT4 Evo), Saturday’s race winner, who retired immediately.

Orlando Batina and Nuno Pires, in Batina Racing’s Toyota, looked set for victory, but a gearbox issue relegated them to second place, ahead of José Carlos Pires and Abreu, who still salvaged a podium for Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal.

Manuel Gião and Vasco Oliveira, at the wheel of Racar Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, won GT4 Bronze with a solid, well‑managed race. Borja Hormigos and Héctor Hernández finished just behind in Autoworks Motorsport’s BMW M4 GT4, while third place went to Luís Calheiros and Paulo Macedo, who completed the division’s podium in Veloso Motorsport’s Porsche Cayman RS CS, finally leaving behind the setbacks that had affected them.

In GT4 Am, Javier Macias and Smörg were the strongest in Promotion Motorsport’s BMW M4 GT4 Evo, winning after a consistent performance. Second place went to Miguel Ferreira and Fernando Soares in NGT’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, who crossed the line first but lost the victory due to a track‑limits penalty. Third place was secured by Josep Parera and Aleix Nogué in NM Racing Team’s Mercedes‑AMG GT4, showing they have the pace to fight for podium positions.

With the Valencia round complete, attention now turns to Jerez de la Frontera, where Supercars Endurance returns from 6 to 8 November, promising another weekend of intense racing and absolute competitiveness.
