Petrogold by Chefo Sport shine in breath‑taking race

The second GTC and Touring Cars race of the Valencia round, counting towards Supercars Endurance and the Campeonato de España de Supercars, once again delivered a thrilling spectacle, marked by plot twists, decisive incidents and a fierce fight for victory right up to the final moments. After fifty minutes of action, Alejandro Iribas and Ángel Santos, at the wheel of Petrogold by Chefo Sport’s Ligier JS2 R, claimed the win, bringing the Valencian weekend to a perfect close.

As in Saturday’s race, Daniel Teixeira started from pole position in JT59 Racing Team’s Hyundai Elantra N TCR and held the lead in the opening laps, determined to return to winning ways. However, his hopes evaporated quickly when the Hyundai stopped on track with technical issues, forcing a premature retirement and completely altering the course of the race.

With Teixeira out of contention, Himar Acosta took centre stage in Veloso Motorsport’s Ligier JS2 R. After a difficult start, the driver recovered positions and climbed to the lead, opening a significant gap over his pursuers. However, in the second half of the fifty‑minute race, Artur Ferreira — who had taken over the Veloso Motorsport Ligier — saw his advantage eroded by two Safety Car periods, which once again bunched up the field.

The final neutralisation, with the chequered flag already in sight, launched the race into a frantic fight for the lead between Veloso Motorsport’s Ligier JS2 R and the Petrogold by Chefo Sport Ligiers. Moments earlier, Iribas had made contact with Guillaume Huber while the two battled for second place, sending the Swiss Team CDRS driver into the gravel.

In the decisive duel, Iribas and Santos prevailed, securing victory ahead of Gabriel Caçoilo and Maximo Varela, also in a Petrogold by Chefo Sport Ligier. Third place went to Scott Marsh and Alba Vázquez, likewise driving a Ligier JS2 R for the Spanish outfit, completing a clean sweep of the podium.

Jemma Moore, Saturday’s race winner, suffered a clutch issue moments before the start and was forced to begin from the pit lane. The British driver delivered a strong recovery drive and finished close behind the Ligiers. Artur Ferreira and Himar Acosta crossed the line in fifth place, ahead of Tiago Loureiro and Stephanie Hobeika in one of TRS Team’s two McLaren 570S GT4s.

In Touring Cars, Mexican debutant Oliver Salazar Mendoza once again stood out, taking E2P Racing’s BMW M2 CS Cup to the top of the category and completing a perfect debut weekend with two consecutive wins and an impressive seventh place overall.

In the Cup division, Ángel Lanchares won in Lan GP Racing’s Porsche 911 Cup after intense battles with Dave Benett and Marcus Fothergill in Protech Motorsport’s Porsche 911 Cup, who finished just behind. The division’s podium was completed by Ramiro Garcia‑Pumarino, also in a Porsche 911 Cup for the Spanish team.

In GTX Am, Breno Arruda and António Duarte were the strongest in TRS Team’s McLaren 570S GT4, asserting themselves with authority after resolving the issues encountered on Saturday. Second place went to the returning Santiago Vallejo and Marcos de Jorge in Veloso Motorsport’s Ligier JS2 R, while Nicole Drought and Lucas Fothergill secured third in Protech Motorsport’s Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS.

The BMW M2 Cup Iberia once again produced a race full of lead changes and direct battles. Gonçalo Moura and Bernardo Passanha delivered a solid, well‑managed performance to take victory in FPAK Junior Team’s BMW M2 Racing. Close behind came Diego Sirgado and Nathan Corbet, also in a BMW M2 Racing for the FPAK Junior Team, while Daniel Casas — yesterday’s winner — completed the podium in Promotion Motorsport’s BMW M2 Racing, rounding off a very positive debut weekend in Supercars Endurance. Kika Queiroz finished fourth, very close to the podium positions.

With the Valencia round complete, attention now turns to Jerez de la Frontera, where Supercars Endurance returns from 6 to 8 November, promising another weekend of intense racing and absolute competitiveness.
