Luís Cidade (Hyundai Elantra N TCR) and Daniel Teixeira (CUPRA León TCR) were, this Friday, the fastest drivers in free practice of the fourth and last round of SuperCars Endurance Series, at the Spanish circuit of Jerez de la Frontera, making prevail the superiority of the TCR class cars. At stake, at the end of the season, are the TCR and GT4 PRO class titles to be decided in the two races of the weekend, the first on Saturday and the second on Sunday.
In the first practice session, Luís Cidade, who teams up with Gustavo Moura, the current leader of the TCR class, set the best time, beating by 0.592 the McLaren 570S of Guillermo Aso, one of the candidates to the title in GT4 PRO, in which he teams up with Gonzalo de Andrés. Rafael Lobato (CUPRA TCR), making his debut in this competition, which gathers on track cars from TCR and GT4 classes, partnered with Manuel Alves, registered the third best time, ahead of Marmaduke Hall (Ginetta G55), who disputes the GT4 PRO title with the duo Aso/Andrés.
In the afternoon, in the second free practice, Daniel Teixeira (CUPRA León TCR) surprised everyone by posting not only the fastest lap but also the best "crono" of the day (1.53.613), beating Manuel Alves (CUPRA TCR) by 0.007s. Gustavo Moura (Hyundai Elantra N TCR) was third, 0.091s behind his rival in the TCR class title discussion.
The battle for the titles still open promises to continue this Saturday morning, when the qualifying sessions for the two closing races of the season will take place, the first one later in the afternoon.
