NM Racing Team’s Guillermo Aso and Filip Vava took their Mercedes AMG GT4 to the win of the second race at Circuito de Madrid Jarama - RACE, ending the second round of the Supercars Jarama Race in the best possible way and in the leadership of the GT4 drivers' standings.
The race started without the BMW Motorsport España’s BMW M4 GT4 shared by Nerea Martí and José de los Milagros, and the Mercedes AMG GT4 of the NM Racing Team pair Alba Cano and Andy Cantu, after the incident that these two teams had at the chequered flag of the first race.
Filip Vava got off to a good start from pole position, despite the attacks of Orlando Batina, who made a blistering start in the Batina Racing BMW M4 GT4 (F82), and quickly set a very strong pace in an attempt to secure a comfortable lead over his pursuers.
The NM Racing Team driver gradually increased the gap to Luis González, leaving the Team VRT Mercedes AMG GT4 recruit fifteen seconds behind when he pit stopped.
Everything seemed under control for Filip Vava and his team-mate, but their situation was complicated when the Safety-Car came onto the track just after the mandatory pit stops, due to the DNF of the Tockwith Motorsport Ginetta G55 of Steve Kirton and Jonathan Elsworth, which came to a halt due to a driveshaft failure.
The neutralisation wiped out the lead that Filip Vava had built up and, when the race resumed, Guillermo Aso came under pressure from Salvador Tineo.
The Team VRT driver tried his best to finish first, but the NM Racing Team man didn't succumb to the pressure and took the win for his team in the fourth race of the Jarama RACE Supercars, with the two finishing 1.026s apart.
With this result, Guillermo Aso and Filip Vava climb to first place in the Supercars Jarama RACE drivers' competition, with sixty-six points, four more than Salvador Tineo and Luis González.
Local racers Borja Hormigos and Héctor Hernández crossed the finish line in third and won in the GT4 Bronze division.
In the first part of the race, Nil Montserrat, in the NM Racing Team's Mercedes AMG GT4, was in the lead of the division, but the Safety-Car gave Borja Hormigos the chance to put pressure on Alberto de Martín, and he moved into the lead two minutes before the chequered flag, allowing the Autoworks Motorsport duo to celebrate a victory in front of their home crowd.
Batina Racing's BMW M4 GT4 was third overall for a long time, but towards the end, a ‘disagreement’ between Sérgio Azevedo and Pedro Herraiz, in a Hyundai i30 TCR, slowed them both down.
Even so, Batina Racing driver came third in GT4 Pro, while the Spaniard in the Hyundai i30 TCR from RX Pro Racing and his team-mate, Samuel Gomez, were the strongest in the Touring Car category, crossing the finish line in front of Filipe Matias who continued to discover the TC division winner Ginetta G40 from Monteiros Competições.
Series newcomers Keith Southgate and Igor Sorokin were once again the strongest in GT4 Am, finishing an excellent fifth overall in the NM Racing Team's Mercedes AMG GT4, comfortably beating Promotion Motorsport's BMW M4 GT4, which was seventh overall.
Between the two GT4 Am cars was the Tockwith Motorsport Ginetta G55 shared by Jemma Moore and Henrique Cruz. The duo set a very strong pace that no one in GTC could keep up. The Tockwith Motorsports’ Ginetta G50 of Simon Moore and Tomás Pinto Abreu DNF with gearbox problems and the Ginetta G55 of Steve Kirton and Jonathan Elsworth.
Rui Miritta won the Cup division, but it was Marcus Fothergill who led in the first half of the race. However, with the Safety-Car period, the Portuguese driver of the Monteiros Competições’ Porsche 911 sensed the opportunity and didn't let it slip away, overtaking the Tockwith Motorsports Porsche 911 driven by Dave Benett, who was battling with power steering problems.
The next Jarama RACE Supercars race will be held at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia, on 28 and 29 September, but the Iberian Supercars and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade will return on July 13/14 at the Autódromo do Estoril.
