Aston Martin Portugal Teams Up with Araújo Competição to Field Vantage AMR GT4

Araújo Competição, newly appointed Partner Team of Aston Martin Racing, and Aston Martin Lisboa have teamed up to field an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 in the Iberian Supercars Endurance.

With the growing interest in the competitions promoted by Race Ready, Aston Martin Lisboa has partnered with Araújo Competição to bring a brand new Vantage AMR GT4 to the race circuits.

Aston Martin is one of the most celebrated manufacturers of Grand Touring cars, with a long tradition of success in events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Spa.

Araújo Competição has a rich history in Iberian motorsport and was involved in last year's Supercars Endurance with two McLaren 570S GT4s, resulting in the GT4 Bronze drivers' title for Miguel Cristóvão and Francisco Carvalho.

This year, the Lisbon-based team will field a Woking-made car for Manuel Vistas and another for Francisco Carvalho and Nuno Batista, as well as the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 for Álvaro Ramos and Fernando Soares, which will compete in the GTC category, GTX division.

Fernando Soares said, "I was very pleased to receive the invitation from Álvaro and Araújo Competição. As I'm connected to Aston Martin and I'm a great fan of the brand, it was easy to answer positively, and so I'll race this year in the Supercars Endurance. The Vantage is very different from the car I raced in Historic Endurance, it has a lot of technology and I think it will be very competitive. I believe we have the possibility to fight for victories in our category, but we still have a lot of work to do”.

Álvaro Ramos, the 2022 Vice-Champion in the GTC category, is committed to improve his result in 2023. "This is my second year in this competition, which I consider to be the best and most competitive in Portugal and in the Iberian Peninsula. In 2022 I was second in the championship in the GTC category, and I think that this season we can be in the fight for victories again this season. Maybe we can finish the season in a better position than last year. We have a completely new car, we will have to work hard, but I think the Aston Martin will be very competitive with the technical assistance of Araújo Competição”, he said.

Gonçalo Araújo, Head of Araújo Competição, added, "It is fantastic to be associated with a brand like Aston Martin, which has a long history in motorsport. We want to thank Aston Martin Lisboa for the trust they have placed in us. This partnership also demonstrates the vitality that the Supercars Endurance is currently showing, as it is attractive to importers of major car brands. The Aston Martin Vantage is completely new to us, but we believe we can be competitive in the Algarve. Our aim is to work with the drivers and help them develop so that they can compete for victory in the GTC category and then move up to GT4 Bronze”.

Get ready for an action-packed weekend on May 5th and 7th as the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve hosts the opening round of the 2023 Iberian Supercars Endurance, part of the Algarve Welcome Spring programme.
