The Cup division will gain a boost at the upcoming round at Circuito Madrid Jarama – RACE, with the addition of another Porsche 911 Cup car, to be driven by Spaniards Ángel Lanchares and Ramiro García-Pumarino.
This season has seen a noticeable rise in entries in the GTC category, which encompasses the GTX division (non-homologated GT4 machinery) and the Cup class, reserved for former one-make trophy cars. The result has been increasingly competitive and entertaining races, much to the delight of spectators.
At Jarama, the grid will be bolstered by another entry: a Porsche 911 Cup fielded by Lan GP Racing and shared by Ángel Lanchares, who competed last year in the Iberian Historic Endurance series at the wheel of a class H-1971 Porsche 911 ST, and Ramiro García-Pumarino.
“Last year, I started racing in the Iberian Historic Endurance alongside Antonio Castro, my mentor, and I was captivated by the race format, the circuits, and the overall quality of the championship's organisation. That’s why my teammate, Ramiro García-Pumarino, and I decided to buy a GT car. Since we enjoy the driving experience of the 911, we chose to purchase a 997 Cup. This race holds special meaning for us, as we’re both from Madrid and will be racing on home soil. Last year, I competed in the Jarama Classic and thoroughly enjoyed driving a Porsche that was over fifty years old, so we’re really looking forward to the 2025 edition,” said Ángel Lanchares.
Ramiro García-Pumarino has a clear objective for the Jarama weekend: “Our main goal is to enjoy ourselves. For us, racing is a dream come true — a lifelong ambition — and doing it in a GT makes it even more special. Both my teammate and I truly value every moment we get behind the wheel and we’re very aware of how fortunate we are. We aim to have fun, no matter what happens. Good results are the outcome of doing things properly and avoiding mechanical issues — the first part is in our hands, the second isn’t. So what we really want to take home is the experience itself as a victory.”
The second round of Supercars España takes place on 31 May and 1 June, as part of the renowned Jarama Classic – an event that typically attracts over 30,000 fans across the weekend. As always, the races will be broadcast live on DAZN in both Spain and Portugal. English-language coverage will be available on YouTube via Alpha Live, with commentary in English, while additional commentary will be provided in Italian on Parc Fermé TV and in German on Motorsport Television Deutschland.
