VILA REAL: AN INTENSE QUALIFYING SESSION

Supercars Endurance kicked off the competitive action of the second round of the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade on Saturday, as part of the 55th Circuito Internacional de Vila Real, with two highly competitive qualifying sessions.

Francisco Mora was the fastest driver in the first qualifying session, securing pole position for Race 1 aboard the Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, while Pedro Salvador put a similar Speedy Motorsport-run car on pole for the second race.

In the GTC and Touring Car categories, Gabriel Caçoilo topped the first qualifying session at the wheel of the Petrogold by Chefo Sport Ligier JS2 R, while Daniel Teixeira, driving the JT59 Racing Team Hyundai Elantra N TCR, set the fastest time among the Touring Cars in the second session.

All four sessions confirmed the high level of competition that has characterised the season so far. Around the demanding Vila Real street circuit, where even the smallest mistake can ruin a qualifying lap, the margins were once again extremely close, setting the scene for two fiercely contested races in front of the large crowd already lining the historic Portuguese street circuit.

GT4: Qualifying 1 – Mora raises the benchmark

Francisco Mora was the standout performer in the opening GT4 session. The Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal driver produced a superb lap of 2m01.266s to secure pole position for Race 1 as the fastest GT4 Pro driver. Even so, the Portuguese admitted afterwards that he had been hoping to dip below the 2m01s barrier and came very close to doing so.

César Machado placed the Speedy Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 second overall to secure a front-row starting position, while Carlos Vieira took the Veloso Motorsport Porsche Cayman RS CS GT4 to third overall in GT4 Pro, underlining the close fight among the leading contenders.

GT4 Pro-Bronze once again proved exceptionally competitive. José Carlos Pires was the fastest in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, finishing immediately behind the two overall front-runners. Returning to the championship, Sérgio Azevedo placed the Batina Racing Toyota second in class, while António Veloso secured third aboard the Veloso Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT4.

Vasco Oliveira continued Racar Motorsport's strong form by putting the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO on top in GT4 Bronze. André Nabais, driving the Gianfranco Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, qualified second, while Ricardo Costa completed the top three in his Speedy Motorsport debut, taking the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS to third in class.

Rúben Vaquinhas was the fastest GT4 Am driver, placing his RV7 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 twelfth overall.

GT4: Qualifying 2 – Salvador shines on his return

The second session produced another outstanding performance, with Pedro Salvador setting the fastest overall lap in the Speedy Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 to claim pole position for Race 2. Despite the result, the local driver admitted afterwards that he believed there was still a little more time to be found.

The session ended prematurely following Paulo Macedo's heavy accident at the Descida de Mateus chicane. His Veloso Motorsport Porsche Cayman RS CS suffered extensive damage, forcing Race Control to abandon the session.

Francisco Abreu placed the Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal Toyota second overall and quickest in GT4 Pro-Bronze. Patrick Cunha enjoyed an impressive return by taking the Veloso Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT4 to second in class and third overall, while Orlando Batina completed the class top three in the Batina Racing Toyota.

Splitting the Audi and the Toyota was German driver Hendrik Still, who enjoyed an excellent first weekend at Vila Real by placing the Veloso Motorsport Porsche Cayman RS CS GT4 among the fastest GT4 Pro entries, adapting remarkably quickly to a circuit he had never previously driven.

In GT4 Bronze, returning driver Bruno Pires was fastest aboard the Speedy Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, ahead of Manuel Gião's Racar Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO and André Nabais' Gianfranco Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2.

Rúben Vaquinhas recorded the tenth fastest overall time and was once again the quickest GT4 Am driver, ahead of Rafael Rajani's McLaren Artura GT4, whose lap times were deleted for exceeding track limits, and Paulo Macedo following his accident.

GTC/Touring Cars: Qualifying 1 – Caçoilo impresses

The opening GTC and Touring Car session was interrupted for an extended period following Pompeu Simões' heavy impact with the barriers.

Once the session resumed, Gabriel Caçoilo delivered a flawless performance, putting the Chefo Sport by Petrogold Ligier JS2 R on GTX pole position with an outstanding lap despite the circuit still being very dirty. Will Hunt placed the TRS McLaren 570S GT4 second in class, while Artur Ferreira completed the top three in the Veloso Motorsport Ligier.

António Duarte took the second TRS McLaren 570S GT4 to eighth overall, recovering well from a difficult Friday after contact during the opening free practice session forced him to miss the remaining practice running.

In Cup, André Fernandes once again led the way in the AF Motorsport Porsche 911 Cup, setting the second fastest overall time. Vítor Costa finished second for Monteiros Competições, while Adam Fawsitt completed the top three in the Art of Speed Porsche.

Among the Touring Cars, Charles Valentiny put the J. Santos Competição Peugeot 308 TCR on top, fourth overall, ahead of Frederico Formiga's Art of Speed SEAT León Supercopa MK2 and Daniel Teixeira, whose Hyundai Elantra N TCR failed to record a representative lap.

GTC/Touring Cars: Qualifying 2 – Teixeira bounces back

Portuguese Touring Car champion Daniel Teixeira responded superbly to adversity by topping the timesheets in the second GTC and Touring Car qualifying session.

After mechanical issues had hampered the start of his weekend and with the first qualifying session largely devoted to bedding in new brakes, the JT59 Racing Team driver bounced back by putting the Hyundai Elantra N TCR on pole position for Race 2 as the fastest Touring Car competitor.

Ángel Santos once again demonstrated the pace of the Petrogold by Chefo Sport Ligier JS2 R by setting the fastest GTX time, ahead of Stephanie Hobeika's TRS McLaren 570S GT4. José Maria Marreiros clipped the barriers during the session, damaging the Veloso Motorsport Ligier JS2 R and preventing him from setting a competitive lap.

André Fernandes repeated his earlier performance by once again topping the Cup class and finishing second overall, ahead of Vítor Costa, while British racer Adam Fawsitt encountered gearbox problems with his Porsche.

Michel Fernandes put the J.Santos Competição Peugeot 308 TCR second among the Touring Cars, followed by Frederico Formiga in the Art of Speed SEAT León Supercopa MK2.

The Supercars Endurance races take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Circuito Internacional de Vila Real and will be broadcast live on DAZN Portugal and DAZN Spain. O Supercars Endurance abriu este sábado a acção competitiva da segunda etapa do Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade, integrada na 55.ª edição do Circuito Internacional de Vila Real, com duas sessões de qualificação marcadas pelo elevado equilíbrio competitivo.

Francisco Mora foi o mais rápido na primeira Qualificação, assegurando a pole-position para a primeira corrida aos comandos do Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal, enquanto Pedro Salvador colocou um carro semelhante mas da Speedy Motorsport na frente da segunda.

Nas restantes categorias, Gabriel Caçoilo foi o mais rápido da primeira qualificação dos GTC e Turismos, ao volante do Ligier JS2 R da Petrogold by Chefo Sport, cabendo a Daniel Teixeira,  o melhores dos carros de Turismo, em Hyundai Elantra N TCR da JT59 Racing Team, efectuar o melhor registo na segunda.

As quatro sessões confirmaram o elevado nível competitivo que tem marcado a temporada. Num circuito particularmente exigente como Vila Real, onde um pequeno erro pode comprometer toda uma qualificação, as diferenças voltaram a ser reduzidas, deixando antever corridas muito disputadas perante o muito público que já hoje acorreu ao histórico traçado transmontano.

GT4: Qualificação 1 – Mora eleva a fasquia

Francisco Mora foi o grande protagonista da primeira sessão destinada aos GT4. O piloto da Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal realizou uma volta no limite, estabelecendo a referência em 2m01,266s e garantindo a pole-position para a primeira corrida, ao assumir-se como o mais rápido da GT4 Pro. Ainda assim, o portuense gostaria de ter descido ao minuto 120, ficando muito próximo disso.

César Machado colocou o Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Speedy Motorsport na segunda posição da geral, assegurando um lugar na primeira linha da grelha, enquanto Carlos Vieira levou o Porsche Cayman CS RS GT4 da Veloso Motorsport ao terceiro posto da divisão, confirmando o equilíbrio entre os principais candidatos.

A GT4 Pro-Bronze voltou a revelar-se extremamente competitiva. José Carlos Pires foi o mais rápido no Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal, terminando imediatamente atrás dos dois primeiros classificados da geral. Sérgio Azevedo, no seu regresso, colocou o Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Batina Racing na segunda posição da divisão, enquanto António Veloso garantiu o terceiro lugar aos comandos do Audi R8 LMS GT4 da Veloso Motorsport.

Vasco Oliveira confirmou o bom momento da Racar Motorsport, colocando o Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO na frente da GT4 Bronze. André Nabais, no Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Gianfranco Motorsport, assegurou a segunda posição, com Ricardo Costa, no Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS da Speedy Motorsport, a completar os três primeiros na sua estreia na equipa portuguesa e aos comandos máquina germânica.

Rúben Vaquinhas, o melhor dos GT4 Am, colocou o Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 da RV7 na décima segunda posição.

GT4: Qualificação 2 – Salvador com um bom regresso

A segunda sessão reservou outro momento de grande qualidade. Pedro Salvador assinou a melhor volta absoluta ao volante do Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Speedy Motorsport, garantindo a pole-position para a segunda corrida. Apesar do resultado, o transmontano mostrava-se pouco satisfeito no final da sessão, convicto de que ainda poderia ter retirado mais alguns décimos ao cronómetro.

A qualificação terminou antes do tempo previsto na sequência do violento despiste de Paulo Macedo na chicane da Descida de Mateus. O Porsche Cayman CS RS da Veloso Motorsport sofreu danos muito significativos, obrigando à interrupção definitiva da sessão.

Francisco Abreu colocou o Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal na segunda posição absoluta e no topo da divisão GT4 Pro-Bronze. Patrick Cunha esteve em muito bom plano no seu regresso, colocando Audi R8 LMS GT4 da Veloso Motorsport ao assegurar o segundo lugar da divisão, terceiro da geral, com Orlando Batina a colocar o Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Batina Racing na terceira posição.

Entre o carro de Ingolstadt e o nipónico ficou, o alemão Hendrik Still, que no seu fim de semana de estreia na pista de Vila Real colocou o Porsche Cayman CS RS GT4 da Veloso Motorsport entre os mais rápidos da GT4 Pro, tendo o piloto alemão mostrado um excelente adaptação a um circuito que desconhecia por completo.

Na GT4 Bronze, o regressado Bruno Pires foi o mais rápido ao volante do Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS da Speedy Motorsport, batendo o Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO da Racar Motorsport pilotado por outro regressado ao campeonato, Manuel Gião e o Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 da Gianfranco Motorsport com André Nabais aos comandos.

Rúben Vaquinhas assegurou décimo “crono" da sessão, melhor dos GT4 AM, superiorizando-se a Rafael Rajani, em McLaren Artura GT4, que não marcou tempo devido a não ter respeitado os limites da pista, e a Paulo Macedo, face ao seu acidente.

GTC/Turismo: Qualificação 1 – Caçoilo deslumbra

Nos GTC e Turismos, a sessão ficou marcada por uma longa interrupção na sequência do forte embate de Pompeu Simões nas barreiras de protecção.

Após o reatar da sessão, Gabriel Caçoilo mostrou-se irrepreensível. O jovem português colocou o Ligier JS2 R da Chefo Sport by Petrogold na pole-position da GTX com uma volta de grande nível numa pista que estava muito suja. Will Hunt levou o McLaren 570S GT4 da TRS ao segundo posto da divisão, enquanto Artur Ferreira colocou o Ligier JS2 R da Veloso Motorsport na terceira posição.

António Duarte levou o McLaren 570S GT4 da TRS à oitava posição, reagindo bem a uma sexta-feira difícil devido a um toque na primeira sessão de treinos-livres que o obrigou a ficar de fora das duas restantes.

A Cup voltou a ser liderada por André Fernandes, no Porsche 911 Cup da AF Motorsport, que registou o segundo “crono” da sessão. Vítor Costa, em Porsche 911 Cup da Monteiros Competições, foi segundo, enquanto Adam Fawsitt, ao volante do Porsche 911 Cup da Art of Speed, terminou na terceira posição.

Entre os Turismos, Charles Valentiny levou o Peugeot 308 TCR da J.Santos Competição ao topo da categoria, quarto da geral, superando Frederico Formiga, em SEAT León Supercopa MK2 da Art of Speed, e Daniel Teixeira, em Hyundai Elantra N TCR da JT59 Racing Team, que não registou um tempo competitivo.

GTC/Turismo: Qualificação 2 – Teixeira reage às adversidades

Na segunda sessão de qualificação de GTC/Turismos Daniel Teixeira contrariou as adversidades, colocando-se no topo da tabela de tempos.

Depois dos problemas mecânicos que condicionaram o início do fim-de-semana e de ter utilizado a primeira qualificação para completar a rodagem dos travões, o piloto da JT59 Racing respondeu da melhor forma, colocando o Hyundai Elantra N TCR na pole-position para a segunda corrida, afirmando-se como o mais rápido dos Turismos.

Angel Santos voltou a destacar o Ligier JS2 R da Petrogold by Chefo Sport ao garantir o melhor tempo da GTX, à frente da libanesa Stephanie Hobeika, no McLaren 570S da TRS Team. José Maria Marreiros não evitou um ligeiro toque nos rails durante a sessão, suficiente para provocar danos no Ligier JS2 R da Veloso Motorsport e impedir o jovem piloto de registar um tempo competitivo.

André Fernandes repetiu o melhor tempo da Cup, colocando o Porsche 911 Cup AF Motorsport no segundo posto da geral, à frente de Vítor Costa e do Adam Fawsitt teve dificuldades com a caixa de velocidades do seu Porsche.

O luso-luxemburguês Michel Fernandes assinou aos comandos do Peugeot 308 TCR da J. Santos Competição o segundo posto entre os Turismos, seguido de Frederico Formiga no SEAT León Supercopa MK2 da Art of Speed.

As corridas do Supercars Endurance disputam-se este sábado e domingo no Circuito Internacional de Vila Real, podendo ser acompanhadas em directo na DAZN Portugal e na DAZN Espanha.
