NEW TEAM EMBRACES THE IBERIAN CHALLENGE

CV Performance X JP Motorsport travelled to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve to contest the opening round of the 2025 Iberian Supercars, Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade, and Supercars España - and the German outfit liked what they saw, deciding to commit to the full season.

The team brought a Mercedes-AMG GT4 to the season opener, fielding it for Swedish driver Jonathan Engström, who has built his career in touring car racing, and German racer Patrick Steinmetz, who made his GT4 debut at the event.

The CV Performance X JP Motorsport duo performed well at the Portimão circuit, finishing 13th in the first GT4 race of the weekend and 12th in the second—placing them seventh in the GT4 Pro class on both occasions.

Team principal Christian Voss was impressed by the championship’s dynamics, which proved key to their decision to stay: “The Iberian Supercars is a highly competitive championship featuring strong teams and drivers. It provides an excellent platform to further develop both our team and our drivers. The combination of challenging circuits across Spain and Portugal, along with the series’ professional organisation, aligns perfectly with our sporting and strategic objectives.”

Voss—whose team was DTM Trophy Vice-Champion in 2021 and a multiple race-winner in ADAC GT4 Germany - believes Iberian Supercars could also be an important step for developing young drivers: “Supporting young talent lies at the heart of our philosophy. Having already achieved success in international karting across Europe — with our drivers winning CIK-FIA European and World Championship titles — competing in the Iberian Supercars represents the next logical step in our development. As an SRO-licensed championship, it brings an added level of professionalism. Moreover, the cost structure of the GT4 South series is very reasonable, making it an ideal platform for the progression of young drivers. We also work with drivers from Spain and Portugal, which makes our involvement even more meaningful."

After witnessing the level of competition in the Algarve, Voss is aiming high. "Our primary goal is to establish ourselves as consistent front-runners in the championship. We aim to continue developing our drivers, competing for podiums and victories, and showcasing the strength of our team on an international stage. At the same time, building strong partnerships within the Iberian market and enhancing our brand presence in Southern Europe are key priorities. It’s about achieving success on the track while ensuring sustainable growth off it,” he concluded.

The next round of the Iberian Supercars will take place at the Circuito de Jerez on 13–14 September. In the meantime, Supercars España will race at Jarama from 30 May to 1 June, and the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade will head to the Circuito Internacional de Vila Real on 4–6 July.
