Martins and Faria Clinch Victory in Race 2 at Jarama Circuit After Thrilling Duel with BMW España Motorsport

Mathieu Martins and Roberto Faria, driving an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 for Racar Motorsport, claimed victory in the second race of the Madrid Jarama Circuit – RACE round after an intense battle with Nerea Martí and José de los Milagros, representing BMW España Motorsport.

José de los Milagros started from pole in his BMW M4 GT4 (G82) and maintained the lead early on, but needed to build a gap due to a 10-second success penalty following his win in the morning’s race.

Martins, who lined up fifth on the grid in the Racar-run Aston Martin, made a lightning getaway to slot into third, chasing Tomás Guedes in the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, who held second place.

However, de los Milagros’ strategy was undone when Bernardo Pinheiro (Porsche Cayman RS CS) went off-track shortly after the start, triggering a red flag and neutralising the advantage the BMW driver had carefully built, leaving him vulnerable to rivals.

Strategy became key as the pit window opened. Racar Motorsport were first to blink, calling in Martins to hand over to Roberto Faria. In the laps that followed, Guedes pitted to swap with José Carlos Pires, while de los Milagros handed the BMW over to Nerea Martí.

Once the driver change cycle had concluded, the Speedy Motorsport entry emerged in the lead, followed closely by Faria and Martí, forming a tightly packed lead trio.

But the Japanese machine began to suffer from brake issues, and a minor off from José Carlos Pires opened the door for Faria to take the lead. Moments later, the Speedy Motorsport car retired to the pits.

That left the Racar Motorsport Aston Martin at the front, under heavy pressure from Martí in the BMW. Despite her relentless pursuit, Faria kept his cool and maintained a buffer of just over a second for much of the closing stages.

The fight was ultimately neutralised by another red flag with just two minutes to go, caused by Rúben Silva going off in his Monteiros Competições BMW M4 GT4 (F82) and getting stranded in the gravel.

Faria and Martins were declared winners, finishing nearly two seconds clear of Martí and de los Milagros in second.

Francisco Abreu and Francisco Mora, who didn’t take part in the second qualifying session, started from the back of the grid in their Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 and mounted a strong recovery to complete the podium, nine seconds adrift of the leaders.

Chasing the Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal duo were Guillermo Aso and Filip Vava, who claimed top honours in GT4 Pro-Am Bronze in the NM Racing Team Mercedes AMG GT4, edging out the Gianfranco Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 of Nuno Afonso and Alexandre Areia by just 0.9s. Third in class were Orlando Batina and Miguel Lobo, the latter making an impressive debut in the series for Batina Racing.

Ricardo Costa and Andrés Prieto once again topped the GT4 Bronze category in their NM Racing Team Mercedes AMG GT4, narrowly beating Vasco Oliveira and Francisco Carvalho in the Racar Motorsport-run Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO by just 0.085s. Andrius Zemaitis completed the class podium with a solid drive in the GT Race Marbella by Speedy Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2.

Javier Macias and Smörg were once again dominant in GT4 Am, delivering a near-flawless performance at Jarama in their Promotion Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 (G82). They comfortably beat António Lopes and Filipe Videiras, who gained valuable track mileage in their Racar-prepared Aston Martin.

In the GTX division, Alejandro Iribas and Ángel Santos delivered another faultless display to win in the Ligier JS2R of Chefo Sport by Petrogold, finishing ahead of Simon Moore and Aubrey Hall in the Tockwith Motorsport Ginetta G55, with Héctor Hernández claiming third in the solo-driven Autoworks Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 (F82) after teammate Borja Hormigos became a new father on Sunday.

The battle in the Cup class saw Rui Miritta come out on top, taking victory in his Monteiros Competições-run Porsche 911 Cup ahead of the debuting Lan GP Racing car of Ángel Lanchares and Ramiro García-Pumarino. Morning Cup division race winner Marcus Fothergill rounded out the podium for Tockwith Motorsport despite struggling with engine overheating issues.

Among the FPAK Junior Team drivers, Tomás Martins and João Faria repeated their morning success in the TC division, bringing home the Monteiros Competições Ginetta G40 ahead of Tomás Gomes and Martim Romão. Diogo Castro and Rodrigo Vilaça were forced to retire with electrical issues in their nimble British machine.

Following the Jarama round, Supercars España resumes on 13–14 September at Valencia, once again joining forces with the Iberian Supercars series. The Supercars Endurance family will reunite even sooner, as the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade returns to the iconic Vila Real street circuit on 5–6 July.
