RAJANI AND AGUIAR SECURE DRAMATIC VICTORY IN MEMORABLE GT4 THRILLER AT JARAMA

The first GT4 race of the second Supercars Endurance round, held as part of the Jarama Classic and counting towards the Campeonato de España de Supercars, delivered a completely unexpected conclusion at the Circuito de Madrid Jarama–RACE. Young newcomers Rafael Rajani and Luís Aguiar, at the wheel of the SMC Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4, claimed victory following a dramatic twist on the final lap, when a mechanical problem denied Mathieu Martins and Anton Morsing what appeared to be a certain win.

The balance seen in qualifying was once again reflected on track, with several position changes among the leading contenders, contrasting strategies during the mandatory pit-stop window and numerous direct battles throughout the field. Uncertainty remained until the final metres, providing a spectacle worthy of the atmosphere created by the crowd at the historic Madrid circuit.

The overall podium was headed by Rafael Rajani and Luís Aguiar who, after a surprise podium finish in Portimão, secured their first victory of the season and further strengthened an impressive start to their Supercars Endurance campaign. José Carlos Pires and Francisco Abreu guided the Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 to second place overall and victory in GT4 Pro-Bronze, while Tomás Granzella and Filip Vava secured third overall in the NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG GT4 after Vava overtook Rodrigo Almeida’s Toyota in the closing stages.

Mathieu Martins started from pole position but lost several places at the start before producing a remarkable recovery that allowed him to regain the lead by the end of the opening lap. Following the mandatory pit stop, Anton Morsing took over the Racar Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO and built a significant advantage over his rivals.

The deployment of the Safety Car during the second half of the race closed up the field once again and placed Luís Aguiar directly behind the Aston Martin. The Danish driver resisted the pressure for several laps and appeared to be heading towards a deserved victory, but a sudden loss of power on the final lap destroyed the Racar Motorsport crew’s hopes, handing victory to Rajani and Aguiar.

Behind the winners, Tomás Granzella and Filip Vava secured second place in the division, confirming the competitiveness of the NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG GT4. César Machado and Tomás Teixeira finished third in class with the Speedy Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 after a consistent race that kept them in contention for the leading positions.

After showing excellent pace throughout practice, Carlos Vieira and Hendrik Still were unable to take the start following the damage caused by the Portuguese driver’s accident during Saturday morning’s qualifying session.

GT4 Pro-Bronze once again demonstrated why it is one of the championship’s most competitive categories. José Carlos Pires and Francisco Abreu converted second place overall into victory in the division, strengthening their championship lead.

Nuno Afonso and Alexandre Areia, driving the Gianfranco Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, finished second in class after spending the race close to the leaders. Alfonso Colomina and Lluis Mas secured third place in the division with the SMC Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 following a fierce battle with Guillermo Aso and Mario Pinazo.

Ricardo Costa and Andrés Prieto once again demonstrated the excellent form they have shown since the start of the season in GT4 Bronze. The NM Racing Team duo crossed the finish line first in their Mercedes-AMG GT4, but a five-second penalty dropped them to second place.

Héctor Hernández and Borja Hormigos, who had originally crossed the line second in their Autoworks Motorsport BMW M4 GT4, were promoted to victory, a result made even more special as this was the home event for the Spanish pairing. The final podium position went to Luís Calheiros and Paulo Macedo, who placed the Veloso Motorsport Porsche Cayman RS CS among the top three finishers.

Racar Motorsport’s race ended prematurely in this division, with Vasco Oliveira and Ivan Velasco forced to retire due to brake problems while leading and seemingly on course for victory, adding to an unfortunate day for the Odivelas-based team.

In GT4 Am, Alejandro Wendt and Jaime Garcia Sanchis once again confirmed the competitiveness of the SMC Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4, securing category victory after a controlled and effective performance on a day when the Spanish team was particularly prominent.

Smörg and Javier Macias finished second in class with the Promotion Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 EVO, remaining in pursuit of the winners throughout the race, although never quite managing to reduce the gap decisively.

Saturday’s race left several storylines unresolved and further increased anticipation for the conclusion of the Madrid weekend. The second GT4 race of the Supercars Endurance will take place on Sunday at 14:15 at the Circuito de Madrid Jarama–RACE, promising another showdown between the leading title contenders. The race will be broadcast live on DAZN Portugal and DAZN Spain, with international coverage also provided by Motorsport TV Deutschland, Parc Fermé in Italy and Braking Zone TV for Brazilian audiences.
