The Circuit Ricardo Tormo hosted this morning the first tests of the Supercars Endurance, marking the start of preparations for the Valencia round, which counts for both Iberian Supercars and Supercars España. It was the first contact for drivers and teams with the Spanish circuit – an opportunity to begin fine-tuning cars and strategies for Sunday’s races – and parity was the dominant theme.
It was in moderate heat, anticipating the afternoon Valencian scorch, that the drivers took to the Spanish track. For some, it was a chance to reacquaint themselves with its characteristics, while for others – after many laps on the simulator – it was their first real steps on the 4.005-km, 14-corner circuit.
The first GT4 test confirmed the level of competitiveness expected for the weekend, with BMW Motorsport España once again showing the speed demonstrated at Jarama, as Nerea Martí and José de los Milagros topped the times with their BMW M4 GT4 EVO.
Also in GT4 Pro, Tomás Guedes and José Carlos Pires (Speedy Motorsport’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2) were not far behind, losing just 0.567s, closely followed by Francisco Mora and Francisco Abreu (Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2), only a few thousandths further back.
In GT4 Pro-Bronze, Sérgio Azevedo and Orlando Batina (Batina Racing’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2) set the pace with a 1:41.790, leaving Andrius Zemaitis and Karel Staut (NokoTech Racing by Speedy’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2) 0.313s behind. It was an auspicious start for this duo, teaming up for the first time. José Cautela and Lourenço Monteiro (McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport’s McLaren Artura GT4) were third, just 0.347s off the top, hinting at a fierce weekend battle.
Manuel Bertolín (GT Corse’s BMW M4 GT4 EVO), returning to Supercars Endurance, stood out in GT4 Bronze by leading the division with a time of 1:42.279. Álvaro Lobera and Gonzalo de Andrés (McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport’s McLaren Artura GT4) were second, 0.285s adrift, followed by Vasco Oliveira and Francisco Carvalho (Racar Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO), 0.512s from the benchmark.
BMW also stood out in GT4 Am, where Promotion Motorsport once again shone, with Smörg and Javier Macías (BMW M4 GT4 EVO) topping the times on 1:44.140. Pedro Bastos Rezende and Rúben Vaquinhas (Gianfranco Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4), unbeaten so far this year, were 0.893s behind, while António Lopes and Filipe Videira (Racar Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4) completed the division’s top three.
Earlier, the GTC category competitors also had the chance to test in a session exclusively dedicated to them, incorporating both GTX and Cup divisions.
In GTX, the spotlight was on Alba Vázquez and Alfonso Colomina (McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport’s McLaren 570S GT4), who led the table with 1:43.785, showing that they are in Valencia to fight for top positions and defend their Iberian Supercars points lead. Duarte Camelo and Pompeu Simões (Speedy Motorsport’s Porsche Cayman CS) were second, just two-tenths behind, followed by Gracie Mitchell and Luca Staccini (Tockwith Motorsports’ Ginetta G55).
In the Cup class, Marcus Fothergill and Dave Benett (Tockwith Motorsports’ Porsche 911 Cup) were in excellent form, setting the division’s best time with 1:43.608. The British duo left behind Adam Fawsitt and Pedro Paiva Raposo (Protech Motorsport’s Porsche 911 Cup), who were second fastest.
The parity shown across all divisions confirms the expectation of intense racing on Sunday, where every detail could prove decisive and the excitement will thrill the many fans expected trackside.
In the afternoon, another one-hour test session will be held for each category – GT4 and GTC.
The two decisive races will take place on Sunday: the first starting at 10:05 (GMT+1) and the second at 15:05, both lasting 50 minutes, promising intense action from lights to flag.
All the excitement can be followed live on DAZN Portugal and DAZN Spain, as well as on the official social media channels of the competition (in Spanish). For international fans, there will be English coverage on Alpha Live’s YouTube channel, German coverage on Motorsport Television Deutschland and Italian coverage on Parc Férme TV.
