Alba Vázquez has emerged as one of the breakthrough stars of Iberian motorsport in 2025. Now in just her third year of racing – and her first competing in both the Iberian Supercars and Supercars España – the young Spanish driver leads the GTX division in both championships.
The 2025 season could not have started better for Vázquez and team-mate Alfonso Colomina, who share the McLaren 570S GT4 run by McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport in the GTX division. Victory at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve immediately established them as title contenders for 2025.
That strong opening was followed by two further podiums at Jarama, proving that Portimão had been no one-off: “I’m really happy with how everything is going. It’s been a very intense season, with a lot of work from myself and from McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport. The win in the Algarve was special because it showed we’re on the right path and that the car has huge potential. Leading in the Iberian Supercars doesn’t mean we can relax – quite the opposite. Every race is a new challenge, the competition is very strong, and any mistake is costly. My goal is to stay consistent, keep scoring points, and give it everything right through to the final round.”

Although a newcomer to the championship, Vázquez has gone up against formidable opposition in a fiercely competitive field, with professional teams campaigning cars from leading manufacturers. She admits the challenge has been as demanding as it has been motivating.
“The level is really high. Every driver has a lot of experience and the teams work in a very professional way. In the Iberian Supercars, for example, you’ve got brands like Mercedes, Porsche and McLaren – that’s us – which means every detail counts, from car set-up to race strategy. For me, in my first year in this championship and only my second season in GT racing, it’s a huge challenge – but that’s exactly what motivates me. It forces me to learn fast, adapt quickly and give 110% every lap. I think the championship is growing a lot and is becoming a true reference in Iberian motorsport,” she said.
The GTX division title fight is set to go down to the wire, with only a handful of points separating the frontrunners. Vázquez believes consistency will be key with three events to go: “Regularity will be the deciding factor. In such a close championship, it’s not enough to just win a race – you need to score in every round and avoid mistakes, both on track and with strategy. Tyre management and BoP are also going to be crucial, as they completely change the behaviour of the McLaren. Track characteristics matter too – some circuits suit our car better than others, and in this final stretch the layouts don’t play to our strengths given the size of the car and the BoP we carry. The key will be to minimise losses where we’re weaker and maximise opportunities where we have an advantage.”

The next challenge comes at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, as the championship resumes in September. For Vázquez, it promises to be a demanding weekend at a technical track that could test the McLaren’s characteristics: “It’s a very technical circuit, with a lot of linked corners and sections where a well-balanced car is vital. I believe the McLaren 570S GT4 can adapt well, but we may also suffer compared with our rivals due to the BoP and the size of the car,” she explained.
Looking ahead, Vázquez makes no secret of her ambition to continue progressing within the team, hinting at further plans for the future:“At the moment I can’t reveal details about 2026, but everything suggests I’ll continue working with McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport. I feel very comfortable in this team; they’re like a family. Communication is excellent, they listen to me, they trust me, and together we’ve grown a lot in a short time. This season with the 570S GT4 has been an incredible experience and, while I can’t confirm anything, the idea is to keep evolving and take the next step when the time is right. With this team I know I have the tools and the support to fight for big results.”

With only three years of car racing behind her and already a title contender, Alba Vázquez is confirming herself as one of the rising names in Iberian motorsport, showing talent, consistency and competitive maturity in a championship that demands the highest standards.
The next round takes place at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia, from 12–14 September, with free paddock entry for fans.
