Iberian Supercars EnduranceGT4 PRO reigning champion, Manuel Gião, teamed up with Carlos Vieira, a former champion in both Portuguese GT and Portuguese Rally Championship, with the aim of conquering another drivers' title.
Carlos Vieira and Manuel Gião are two of the most prominent names in Portuguese racing drivers with a solid Iberian experience, having both competed in the Spanish GT Championship at the beginning of the last decade. Sertã-native Manuel Gião, who has been racing for four decades now, won this series title in 2011.
Carlos Vieira, a former Portuguese Rally Champion with a vast experience in circuit racing, has recently achieved a remarkable feat on the racetrack by winning the GT3 Cup one-make series for the past two years in a row. He is now moving up the ladder to compete in the Supercars Endurance and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade.
Manuel Gião and Carlos Vieira will make a competitive duo as they drive a Mercedes-AMG GT4. They are expected to be among the top contenders in the GT4 Pro division.
Carlos Vieira said: "I was thrilled to receive Manuel's invitation for us to team up in this series, which has an enormous prestige and is considered the highest level in the Iberian Peninsula, featuring strong, numerous and competitive teams. We are fully aware of the great challenge ahead, but our aim is to compete for victories and titles. We will work tirelessly to achieve our goals and come out on top.”
Manuel Gião added: “The field has become even stronger and more competitive this year, featuring highly professional teams and a diverse range of new cars, which adds to the excitement. I firmly believe that this series is the benchmark for motorsports in the Iberian Peninsula. I already know Carlos and his capabilities, as he is an experienced and incredibly fast driver. With our partnership, and the competitive Mercedes-AMG GT4 car, we have the potential to achieve great results and compete for victories and titles. Despite facing tough competition, we are determined to give our best effort and put up a good fight.”
The Iberian Supercars Endurance season is scheduled to commence on May 5-7 at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. Fans can tune in and watch the races live via the championship's social media channels.
