The second round of the 2026 Supercars Endurance season marks the debut of the Campeonato de España de Supercars on Spanish soil and at the Circuito de Madrid Jarama – RACE, with the GT4 field featuring a superb 23-car grid.

Part of the acclaimed Jarama Classic programme, one of the most popular motorsport events on the Iberian Peninsula, which year after year attracts tens of thousands of spectators to the grandstands of the legendary Madrid circuit, the leading circuit racing championship in Iberia arrives with an impressive entry list. Twenty-three cars spread across four divisions will represent some of the finest teams and drivers from Iberian and European motorsport, guaranteeing an exceptionally high level of competition.

The opening round, held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, provided an exciting preview of what lies ahead. For those who witnessed the season opener in Portugal, Jarama is the natural continuation of a campaign that began with the bar set remarkably high. For those who did not, it offers the perfect opportunity to understand why this championship has become the benchmark for Iberian motorsport.

The Circuito de Madrid Jarama – RACE is one of the iconic venues of European motorsport. Opened in 1967 in San Sebastián de los Reyes, 32 kilometres north of Madrid, its 3.850-kilometre layout has hosted Formula 1 Grands Prix, Motorcycle Grands Prix and, more recently, the Formula E Madrid E-Prix. It is an old-school circuit in the truest sense of the term, featuring 14 technical corners and short straights that demand precision from drivers, cars and teams alike.

At this time of year, Madrid experiences some of its hottest weeks, with track temperatures frequently exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, making tyre management a decisive factor. It is a circuit that rewards bravery and punishes mistakes mercilessly, where tyre performance is expected to play a crucial role.

GT4 Pro – No Clear Favourites

GT4 Pro will feature 11 entries at Jarama, creating an international-calibre grid that promises intense battles throughout the weekend. After sharing the victories at the opening round in Portimão, Francisco Mora and Rodrigo Almeida, driving the Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo2, and César Machado and Tomás Teixeira, in the identical Speedy Motorsport machine, arrive in Madrid as the benchmark crews of the division. Nevertheless, the depth of competition is such that there is no shortage of challengers capable of disrupting the hierarchy established in Portugal.

Iberian champion Mathieu Martins and young Danish driver Anton Morsing, in the Racar Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo, secured a pole position in Portimão but paid a heavy price when a wheel failure forced their retirement while running second. Rafael Rajani and Luís Aguiar, aboard the McLaren Barcelona-SMC Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4, together with Carlos Vieira and Hendrik Still in the Veloso Motorsport Porsche Cayman RS CS GT4, form a chasing group of exceptional quality.

Competing on home ground for BMW Motorsport España, Eric Gené and Jan Durán will be eager to showcase their talent to the local fans aboard the BMW M4 GT4 EVO and repeat the success achieved by the Bavarian manufacturer's Spanish outfit at Jarama last season.

NM Racing Team will also be determined to make its mark in the first Spanish round of the season. The Barcelona-based squad will rely on Filip Vava and Tomás Granzella, who secured a podium finish in Portimão.

The major novelty in the division is the arrival of Joel Bergström and Roberto Faria, who will drive the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 entered by RV7 and operated by Gianfranco Motorsport, hoping to leave behind the technical issues that sidelined their Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO in Portugal.

GT4 Pro-Bronze – Everything to Play For

With six entries, GT4 Pro-Bronze proved one of the most competitive divisions in Portimão. Nuno Afonso and Alexandre Areia, driving the Gianfranco Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo2, arrive at Jarama after claiming overall victory in Race 2, a result that naturally places them among the favourites for class honours. However, their rivals will not make life easy.

Nuno Pires and Orlando Batina of Batina Racing enjoyed an extremely consistent weekend in the Algarve, securing podium finishes in both races, while 2023 Iberian champions José Carlos Pires and Francisco Abreu, representing Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal, won the division in Race 1 and will once again be among the protagonists.

The division also features Guillermo Aso and Mario Pinazo in the NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG GT4, Alfonso Colomina and Lluís Mas in the McLaren Barcelona-SMC Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4, and Himar Acosta and Kyam Potez in the CV Performance x JP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4. All possess the credentials to challenge the Portimão winners.

GT4 Bronze – Plenty of Contenders Ready to Break the Trend

The Bronze division arrives at Jarama with no firmly established hierarchy. Vasco Oliveira and Ivan Velasco, driving the Racar Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo, won the first Algarve race and finished on the podium in the second, making them the natural reference point.

However, Andrés Prieto and Ricardo Costa, in the NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG GT4, demonstrated enough pace to challenge them seriously and also achieved strong results at Jarama last season.

Borja Hormigos and Héctor Hernández, in the Autoworks Motorsport BMW M4 GT4, will race in front of their home crowd and are determined to deliver a memorable result, while Luís Calheiros and Paulo Macedo, driving the Veloso Motorsport Porsche Cayman CS RS, complete a division where balance is the only certainty.

GT4 Am – A Spanish Showdown

GT4 Am is set to feature a fascinating battle between Jaime Sanchis and Alex Wendt in the SMC Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4, winners of the second Portimão race, and Smörg and Javier Macias in the Promotion Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 EVO, who will be determined to triumph in front of the Spanish fans.

At Jarama, with the heat of June and the demands of the circuit, even the smallest mistake can prove costly. Both crews know that this weekend could play a decisive role in the fight for the championship title.

As is clear to see, there are many reasons to follow next weekend’s races. The two GT4 races of the Supercars Endurance Jarama Classic meeting will take place on 6 and 7 June at the Circuito de Madrid Jarama – RACE.

As usual, both races will be broadcast live on DAZN Spain and DAZN Portugal, as well as on the Race Ready YouTube channel with English and Spanish commentary. Additional international coverage will be provided by Motorsport TV Deutschland in Germany, Parc Fermé in Italy and Braking Zone TV in Brazil.
