Portuguese stalwart Pedro Salvador makes his return to national motorsport this weekend, competing in the 54th edition of the Circuito Internacional de Vila Real, July 4th – 6th, as part of the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade.
The Speedy Motorsport team principal will once again don his racing suit, joining forces with José Carlos Pires at the wheel of the team’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2.
This participation had been planned from the start of the season, after it was confirmed that Tomás Guedes would be unavailable for the Vila Real round. Choosing Pedro Salvador to partner with José Carlos Pires was a natural decision — not only because of his extensive knowledge of the circuit but also due to his emotional connection to the iconic Transmontano circuit.
The return to Vila Real street circuit to the Supercars Endurance racing series holds particular significance for the driver, who is celebrating 30 years in motorsport. With a strong track record of success at the “Bila”, Pedro Salvador returns to a circuit where he recently won in the GT4 class (2022) and claimed victory in the Vila Real Trophy (2024). In 2025, he’s back in a GT4 car, now under the colours of his own team.
Speedy Motorsport will field three cars in what is widely considered the highlight of the racing season. The pairing of former champion César Machado and local hero Rafael Lobato, also driving a Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, are strong contenders for the weekend’s victories. Meanwhile, Duarte Camelo and Pompeu Simões, in a Porsche Cayman GT4 CS, face another important challenge focused on learning and development on this demanding and technical circuit in the GTX division.
Silver-ranked Pedro Salvador admits that his competitive rhythm isn’t at its peak, due to limited appearances in recent months, but assures full commitment and excitement for this return: ”my participation in the Vila Real street circuit was planned from the start of the year, following Tomás’s unavailability. This led to the opportunity to team up with Zé Carlos - something I was particularly pleased about, not just for the partnership, but because of my deep connection with Vila Real and the rich history of the circuit. It’s with great pride and a sense of responsibility that I return to represent Speedy Motorsport at such a significant event, with the clear goal of contributing to the best possible team result. I’m aware that my competitive pace isn’t ideal - I only took part in two races last year and will do the same this year - which, given the high level of competition, makes this an even tougher challenge. Nevertheless, I will give everything I have to be as competitive as possible. Speedy Motorsport will have three cars on track, with César and Rafa as strong contenders for victory, which highlights the importance of this weekend. I approach this race with the same ambition, humility and determination that have always guided me".
Pedro Salvador, who competed in the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade at Vila Real in 2022 at the wheel of a McLaren 570S GT4, now returns to one of the most iconic circuits of his career. Once again, he is set to experience the unwavering support of the passionate Vila Real crowd and the unrivalled thrill of racing between the barriers of a track that embodies passion, bravery, and tradition in Portuguese motorsport.
Both 50-minute races will be broadcast live on DAZN España and DAZN Portugal, the Race Ready YouTube channel, Motorsport Television Deutschland (in German), and Parc Férme TV (in Italian).
