Today saw the qualifying sessions for the Valencia races of Supercars Endurance, counting for both Iberian Supercars and Supercars España, with intense battles and surprise results that promise high drama in tomorrow’s races.
GT4 – QUALIFYING 1: THRILLING DUEL BETWEEN TITLE CONTENDERS
At Circuit Ricardo Tormo, the first GT4 qualifying session was a true hymn to the competitiveness that defines this Iberian competition. Francisco Mora, in Toyota Gazoo Racing Caetano Portugal’s Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, flew to pole position, beating Roberto Faria by just 0.077s in Racar Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 – a duel between two clear title contenders that promises to electrify Sunday’s races.
The excitement did not stop there, as Bruno Pereira delivered an impressive lap in Araújo Competição’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO to be the fastest in GT4 Pro-Bronze and slot into third overall, underlining the diversity at the top of the times. José Carlos Pires, in Speedy Motorsport’s Toyota, was just over half a second from Francisco Mora, taking fourth overall and third in GT4 Pro, and is also a prime candidate for victory in tomorrow’s races.
Guillermo Aso, in NM Racing Team’s Mercedes-AMG GT4, and José Cautela, in McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport’s McLaren Artura, were separated by tenths as they rounded out the top three in GT4 Pro-Bronze.
The GT4 Bronze battle was led by Vasco Oliveira in Racar Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO, but Miguel Nabais (Gianfranco Motorsport’s Toyota) and Gonzalo de Andrés (McLaren Barcelona – SMC Motorsport’s McLaren) kept him under constant pressure.
GT4 Am also provided plenty of excitement, with Javier Macías (Promotion Motorsport’s BMW) beating class leader Rúben Vaquinhas (Gianfranco Motorsport’s Aston Martin) and Vicente Dasí (PCR Sport’s Mercedes-AMG) to secure the top spot.
GT4 – QUALIFYING 2: YOUNG ROOKIE TAKES POLE
If the first session had already got the crowd on their feet, the second was equally electrifying. Karel Staut, making his debut in the championship at just 14 years of age, delivered a dream lap in NokoTech Racing by Speedy’s Toyota to claim overall pole position – a feat set to go down in Iberian Supercars history.
Just four tenths behind, his GT4 Pro-Bronze rival Filip Vava (NM Racing Team’s Mercedes-AMG) showed he is firmly in the fight, closely followed by Mathieu Martins, who topped GT4 Pro. Alexandre Areia, seventh fastest overall in Gianfranco Motorsport’s Toyota, was third in GT4 Pro-Bronze, six tenths behind the young debutant.
GT4 Pro was a true showdown, with Martins leading by the narrowest margin over Racar Motorsport team-mate Henrique Ventura Oliveira and Spanish newcomer Adrián Ferrer (Speedy Motorsport’s Toyota), with just 0.053s covering all three!
Francisco Carvalho once again put Racar Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO on top in GT4 Bronze, but Colombian driver Andrés Prieto (NM Racing Team’s Mercedes-AMG) and rookie Kyam Potež (Lema Racing’s Mercedes-AMG) made clear that Sunday’s race will be anything but predictable.
In GT4 Am, it was the experienced Pedro Bastos Rezende who set the pace in Gianfranco Motorsport’s Aston Martin, ahead of Smörg (Promotion Motorsport’s BMW M4 GT4 EVO) and Josep Parera (PCR Sport’s Mercedes-AMG), with the top three covered by less than half a second.
GTC – QUALIFYING 1: CLOSE FIGHT FOR POLE
The GTC qualifying session opened with fierce exchanges between the GTX and Cup divisions, trading the overall lead by tenths. At the top, Henrique Moura Oliveira (Monteiros Competições’ BMW M4 GT4 F82), driving solo this weekend, set a 1:43.268 to take pole by less than half a second from Luca Staccini (Tockwith Motorsports’ Ginetta G55), with Adam Fawsitt (Protech Motorsport’s Porsche 911 Cup) putting the Cup on the overall podium. A faithful picture of the balance that reigns in Valencia.
In GTX, the pace was relentless, with Oliveira keeping a firm grip but never shaking off Staccini’s Ginetta, the two separated by just 0.476s. Alejandro Iribas put Chefo Sport Petrogold’s Ligier JS2R third in class, confirming three different brands in the top three – a competitive triangle that promises intense racing.
In Cup, with the ever-favourite Rui Miritta absent from the session, Adam Fawsitt seized the opportunity, delivering a clean lap to go fastest by a narrow margin. Ángel Lanchares (LAN GP Racing) responded consistently to secure second, ahead of Vítor Costa (Monteiros Competições) in third – all three driving Porsche 911 Cup cars.
GTC – QUALIFYING 2: MARCUS FOTHERGILL STRIKES BACK
The second session raised the spectacle another notch: Marcus Fothergill (Tockwith Motorsports’ Porsche) set a 1:42.658 to go fastest overall. Duarte Camelo (Speedy Motorsport’s Porsche Cayman CS) followed just 0.640s behind, beating Gabriel Caçoilo (Chefo Sport Petrogold’s Ligier) in the fight for GTX supremacy.
In Cup, Ángel Lanchares kept LAN GP Racing in contention with second in class, followed by Pedro Paiva Raposo (Protech Motorsport), with margins so small that they promise thrilling Sunday races.
In GTX, Thomas Roche (Tockwith Motorsports’ Ginetta G55) was third fastest, with Henrique Moura Oliveira close behind, both clear contenders for victory in tomorrow’s races.
Sunday’s programme features two unmissable races: the first at 10:05 and the second at 15:05, both lasting 50 minutes of pure action.
All the excitement will be broadcast live on DAZN Portugal and DAZN Spain, as well as on the official social media channels of the competition (in Spanish). For international fans, there will be coverage in English on Alpha Live’s YouTube channel, in German on Motorsport Television Deutschland and in Italian on Parc Férme TV, taking the spectacle of Supercars Endurance beyond borders.
