Supercars Endurance mourns the passing of Rui Miritta, who died last night. A driver who left an indelible mark on the paddock over recent years, both through his achievements on track and the way he conducted himself away from it.

The Portuguese driver had been receiving treatment at São João Hospital since 10 June following a tragic road traffic accident. He passed away on the night of 5 July, leaving everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, both on and off the circuit, deeply saddened.

The news comes just days after Rui Miritta once again demonstrated his talent by winning the Cup division in the opening race of the Jarama round at the wheel of the No. 33 Monteiros Competições-prepared Porsche 911 Cup. It was another victory in a career built on consistency and competitiveness, establishing him as one of the division's outstanding figures.

Rui Miritta's arrival in Supercars Endurance in 2023 marked the beginning of an exceptionally successful chapter. Driving the Monteiros Competições Porsche 911 Cup, he quickly established himself as the benchmark in the Cup division, securing consecutive Cup division and GTC category titles in the Iberian Supercars, the Portuguese Speed Championship and Supercars España in both 2024 and 2025.

However, his achievements on track tell only part of the story. Rui Miritta will also be remembered for the way he approached competition and for the relationships he built with everyone in the paddock. His warmth, unfailing sense of humour, honesty and camaraderie made him a universally respected and much-loved figure among fellow drivers, teams and championship personnel alike.

Rui Miritta's passing is a great loss to the Supercars Endurance family and to Portuguese motorsport, leaving a void that will be difficult to fill.

Race Ready, promoter of Supercars Endurance, together with all its staff, extends its deepest condolences to Rui Miritta's family, friends and to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and sharing moments with him. His memory will forever remain part of the history of the series.
